Marine growth & scale build-up are major causes of water-cooled equipment failure. Traditional methods of cleaning (such as mechanical brushing or harsh acids) can damage equipment and are potentially harmful to the user and the environment. TRAC Ecological has developed a unique line of safe, biodegradable chemicals that efficiently & economically dissolve scale, barnacles, zebra mussels, calcium, rust, lime and other mineral deposits that can reduce water flow.

TRAC Ecological Marine Products

Barnacle Buster™ safely cleans raw water cooling systems from intake to discharge without harming equipment, gaskets or seals. Quart size concentrate now available.

TRAC's Descaler™ is a safe, biodegradable scale remover designed to dissolve water scale & deposits from within fresh water systems.

Port-o-Flush Jr.™ the smallest flushing unit on the market today. Use Port-o-Flush Jr. to safely flush engines, air conditioners, heat exchangers, heads, etc. Safe to use with all of TRAC products.

GreenClean Boat Soap™ is safe, non-toxic, non-corrosive and 100% biodegradable in under 28 days. An efficient, concentrated solution (just one capfuls per gallon of water) that is tough on dirt, very effective on all boat surfaces and leaves no residue - without the use of harsh chemicals. Fragrance-free, non-butyl based and contains no phosphates, dies or chlorinated ingredients.

Sew Clean™ is the most effective alternative when it comes to removing uric scale from deep inside black water systems. Formulated specifically to clean sewage systems from toilet to tank, will dissolve clogs which cause plumbing to overflow and create nasty odors.

PSR™ rids potable water systems of odors & discoloration by attacking the source! Scale builds on low lying, flat sections of systems, allowing bacteria to form. PSR™ targets & removes these areas, bringing new life to fresh water systems.

TRAC Ecological News Letter

Introducing TRAC Ecological News

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Trac Eco News, which we plan on publishing every other month. We will update you on Trac Eco’s products, our distribution and retail partners – and perhaps most importantly – environmental issues important to the marine industry and boaters. We welcome your comments about this e-newsletter and hope you’ll pass this and future editions along to your friends if you think it might be of interest to them.

What Does “Green” Mean?

As consumer interest in “green” products continues to grow, we are seeing more of a “green” or “greener” trend in many products being offered.  Companies like Clorox, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Black & Decker are taking a hard look at sustainability and how to compete in this new market.  In recent months leading boating magazines have contacted us to get our  take on what makes Trac Eco’s products “green” and what it really means to us and the industry.

Many people feel the term “green” gets thrown around a lot these days and that no clear guidelines exist to define exactly what being green is all about. For some companies, the term greener might be more appropriate.  Even if green is not a possibility for a particular product steps could be taken during the manufacturing process to yield less impact to the environment. A perfect example of this is Proctor & Gamble.  Recently P&G introduced a new highly concentrated laundry detergent packaged in a smaller format.  This change alone allowed P&G to reduce packaging materials by almost 40% and water usage by 45%.  Although the chemical itself is not really “green”, the reduction in water and plastic usageis far more environmentally friendly then the original product, thus greener. In other words, being green does only mean using organic ingredients or banning coal fired power plants. Changes implemented by companies like Proctor & Gamble or Power Generation plants should all be considered as making great strides.

As for Trac’s product line, our founders have always had one primary goal when developing our product line – to minimize the impact boaters have on the environment. Most of our chemicals are organic based solutions, containing only food grade materials and can be safely disposed of down a regular sewer drains. You can trust all of Trac Eco’s products to be completely, non-toxic to humans and aquatic organisms, 100% biodegradable in less than 28 days, non flammable, soluble in water, petroleum free and fragrance free. We are truly a “green” marine products company and have been from the beginning.

Why Engines Should Be Flushed Once A Year

As a general rule, flushing a seawater-cooled engine once a year is a good preventative maintenance measure. This is especially important on engines with flexible rubber impellers as marine growth is the most common cause of impeller failure. Monitoring engine temperature is crucial. A consistent temperature increase of 5-10 degrees could mean a problem is starting to form within the cooling system. On most engines, seawater discharged from the engine is used to cool the exhaust gases exiting the engine. If this water flow is reduced, steam (or white smoke) will begin to exit from the exhaust. One reason for this may be a clogged heat exchanger or after cooler. Flushing the engine is an inexpensive alternative. Learn how to clean seawater engine cooling systems  (PDF)

TRAC Introduces GreenClean Boat Soap™

TRAC GreenClean Boat SoapOur newest eco-friendly and cost effective boat maintenance product is GreenClean Boat Soap™. Safe, non-toxic, non-corrosive and 100% biodegradable in under 28 days, GreenClean Boat Soap is an efficient, concentrated solution (just one capful per gallon of water) that is tough on dirt, very effective on all boat surfaces and leaves no residue - without the use of harsh chemicals. Fragrance-free GreenClean Boat Soap is non-butyl based and contains no phosphates, dyes or chlorinated ingredients. This is the answer to, “how do I wash down my boat without feeling guilty about run-off and the impact on the water or ground soil?”

Featured Products

PSR™

Safely removes the bacteria and residue caused by fresh water including scale, silicate, calcium, sludge and all other mineral deposits commonly found in potable water systems. Over time, potable water systems develop odors and discoloration from the scale that builds on low lying and flat sections, PSR attacks this and removes it. More info (PDF)

Sew Clean™

The only safe and effective environmental solution to eliminate problematic clogs and nasty odors from black water systems. Formulated specifically to target uric scale and clean sewage systems from toilet to tank. Dissolves clogs which cause plumbing to overflow and create nasty odors. More info (PDF)

Descaler™

Did you know, as little as 1/64” of scale can reduce system efficiency by as much as 15%? Scale deposits in equipment cooling systems dramatically reduce heat transfer rates and cause overheating problems. This safe, biodegradable scale remover designed to dissolve fresh water scale which forms a rock-like buildup inside water cooled equipment. This mild solution penetrates hard to reach areas and removes years of scale buildup, restoring systems to original condition. More info (PDF)
